Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is a true Human Resources generalist, facilitating all Human Resource functions for the Club’s employee complement.   This role is a great fit for a candidate who is driven to get solid HR experience in an array of HR areas and topics, while supporting an exciting and dynamic industry. 

This role is a term role to cover for a maternity leave.  Tentative term dates would be mid August 2017 to end of October 2018.

Major Responsibilities:

Generalist Support:

  • Leads the Club through the full life cycles of employees, providing guidance, coaching and support on all employee matters and initiatives

  • Answer questions, concerns and inquiries regarding Club policies, procedures and practices

  • Liaises with other Rider work units to receive information and provide timely communication so they can provide information on human resources initiatives to their staff

  • Liaises with external consultants as needed to ensure quality processes are in place for positive employee relations

  • Handles all Human Resources administration, tracking, and document preparation

  • Facilitates all HR and employee support initiatives

  • Assists in the support of Rider programs and events as assigned, including working all Club home games

  • Performs other duties as delegated or assigned

     

    Recruitment:

  • Provides recruitment support for all salaried roles including job advertising, screening, and interview facilitation

  • Supports hourly employee compliment by assisting with job advertising and recruitment strategy

  • Assist all Club departments in assessing resourcing needs and recruitment strategy for season roles and hiring

     

    Onboarding:

  • Facilitates onboarding practices for all salaried staff including providing salaried staff with HR orientations

  • Provides continual improvement to our onboarding practices including supporting management of both salaried hourly staff

     

    Performance Management:

  • Leads the facilitation of the annual process of employee performance planning and feedback to ensure completion

     

  • Supports management through employee performance improvement processes and potential outplacements by providing counsel and advice while seeking a win-win outcome

     

    Benefit Administration:

  • Provides administration support for Club benefit and pension plan. 

  • Ensures up to date communication and training to staff regarding all Club benefits and perks

     

    Board Governance Support:

  • Participates with senior management in the Human Resources Committee meetings by assisting in the agenda development and presenting information for the Committee’s consideration at their quarterly meetings

  • Provides policy revisions proposals as needed for consideration by management and the Human Resources Committee

     

    Club Strategy:

  • Supports the development and updating of the Club’s annual human resources strategy by identifying key issues and trends needing attention

  • Provides input to the annual business planning cycle by contributing ideas, needs and issues for consideration by management for inclusion on the planning document

  • Researches industry patterns to identify marketplace trends for human resources planning and Liaises with other Rider work units to obtain future event information and provides timely communication so they can provide information on human resources initiatives to their staff

  • Liaises with external consultants as needed to ensure quality processes are in place for positive employee relations and developmental initiatives

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:

     

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Human Resources and a minimum of 3-5 years related experience

  • Participation in post-secondary classes in Human Resources management with an ongoing

  • Familiarity with contemporary human resources management tools and techniques that can be adapted for the Club’s needs

  • Knowledge of human resources related legislation and labour standards laws and regulations is required

  • Demonstrated written and oral communications abilities including presentations to multi-sized groups

  • Proven organizational skills in managing multiple priorities, attention to details in a fast paced work environment with shifting priorities

  • Demonstrated professionalism and maturity in responding to staff and the public who raise issues, complaints and demonstrate assertive behaviour

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, in interacting with co-workers, customers and suppliers

  • Independent thinking style that demonstrates a willingness to raise issues with management to ensure appropriate resolution of customer concerns

  • Team oriented style with a “can do” service focus to achieve organizational results

  • Availability to work irregular hours and a high demand work schedule
